Forklift Battery Safety
The power to operate electric forklifts is provided by huge industrial batteries that need to be charged frequently and maintained properly. Safety measures must be followed when connecting the battery to the charger. It is very essential to check battery fluid levels.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is vital for workers working with a forklift battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG comprise safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The right way to protect both skin and clothes from other residue or leaked acid is to wear thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash station must be situated close to the charging place. The path to the post should not be obstructed and an injured employee must be able to go to the eyewash post from the charging place within 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The battery and charger should be at the same amperage. It should be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open fire are prohibited near a charging area and battery. Do not permit objects like lighters or matches to be used when someone is inspecting the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
It is important to keep the battery charging place correctly ventilated. The recharging method can release gas. These fumes are both poisonous and explosive.
