Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is great for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift mechanism only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly designed for surfaces that are not even. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam that elevates both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
