Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
More than 200 deaths each year within North America are caused by forklifts, or lift trucks. Correct maintenance and inspection of forklift tires could help to lessen the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Inspection
The tires on the forklift should be checked at the beginning of every shift, inspected for indications of wear and damage. The air pressure in the tires should be inspected to ensure the pressure is not very low. Having a tire pressure that is low can make the equipment prone to tip-overs while lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The selection of tire type should be based on the kind of surface on which the lift truck would be utilized. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are recommended. For surfaces that are smooth, tires are usually smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks being utilized outdoors. Pneumatic tires could grip well on surfaces which are rough since they have rubber tread and are air-filled.

Other Considerations
According to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines, all lift trucks need some continual daily and some periodic checks that is carried out each shift. The tires must be inspected once more for any sign of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Even minor accidents can cost your company money if the forklift or the merchandise are damaged during a mishap. Be sure you really know a lot about issues involved in lift truck safety.
