Reach Truck
To be able to keep storage areas orderly and to store pallets of goods and supplies, a reach truck could be used. The reach truck comes in quite a few types: the double-deep reach, straddle reach and the stand-up reach.
The simplest kind is the stand-up. The truck forks slide beneath the pallet and move it to the correct storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This particular kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet deep.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, that is like the stand-up, is commonly utilized. This model consists of telescopic forks designed to put the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when one more pallet has to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide underneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units could be accessed in many directions. This model is ideal in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Usually more than one type of reach truck is needed within warehouses. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to use and could increase productivity while making the most of available storage space.
