History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The company's original name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. In the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
